Cookies anyone?

As the holidays get closer and closer, my sweet tooth gets stronger and stronger. So what I want to know today is...

What is your favorite holiday cookie?

My favorite would have to be the Peppermint Swirl cookies I made last year. They turned out amazing! I used to hate making or eating any type of sugar cookies, but lately I've grown to love them. Maybe I just didn't know what I was doing.

If you feel like sharing a recipe too, I will not object!

Peppermint Swirl Cookies

Ingredients:
1 C butter, softened
1 C sugar
1 egg
2 T milk
3 C flour
1/2 t baking soda
1/4 t salt
1/2 t peppermint extract
4-5 drops red food coloring

Directions:
In large bowl, combine butter, sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla; mix until light and fluffy. In medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Add flour mixture to butter mixture; mix well. Place half of dough in plastic bag or wrap. To remaining dough, add peppermint extract and red food coloring. Mix well. Place in plastic bag or wrap. Refrigerate both portions for one hour.

Divide each portion in half. Roll one part white dough into a 10x8" rectangle between 2 pieces of plastic wrap. Set aside. Repeat with pink dough.

Remove top sheet of plastic wrap from white and pink doughs. Place pink dough over white dough. Remove second sheet of plastic wrap from pink dough. Trim edges, if desired. Starting at long edge, roll up in a jelly roll fashion, removing plastic wrap from bottom as dough is rolled. Repeat with remaining dough to form two rolls.

Wrap in plastic wrap; refrigerate 8 hours or up to one week.

Heat oven to 375F. Slice cookies 1/8" thick. Place 1" apart on un-greased cookie sheets. Bake for 5-7 minutes. Cool 1 minute; remove from sheets. Cool completely.

Just for fun, here's a blurry camera-phone pic of the cookie tray I made last year for Hubby to bring to work. Complete with Peppermint Swirl cookies, peanut butter cookies, and Chai Spice cookies!

I look forward to reading your answers, and check out more Aloha Friday at An Island Life!

Goodbyn Review and Giveaway!

I'm a big fan of packing lunch. I pack lunch for my husband to take to work. I pack lunch when we go to the park, Disneyland, and the zoo. I even pack "lunch" when we go on long trips in the car. I used to just use baggies. Lots and lots of them. About a year ago I decided to cut down on my usage of paper and plastic products and I stopped buying things like sandwich baggies, paper towels and paper napkins. I bought a bunch of reusable containers for our food instead. The only problem with those containers is that when I pack lunch it gets pretty bulky. All of those different size containers don't exactly fit well together. Then I found Goodbyn.

Goodbyn came to be in the same way that many great products do. A mom in search of the perfect lunchbox. It has five individual compartments and one tightly sealing lid that keeps not only your food separate, but the flavors as well! It also comes with an 8.5oz bottle that tucks nicely inside. Because it eliminates the need for any packaging, it saves you $190 dollars a year in plastic baggies and juice boxes.

Goodbyn also comes with 275 stickers so that kids can personalize theirs. For my sticker-lover, it was like a dream come true. We spent a good 30 minutes decorating his Goodbyn until he was finally satisfied with the results. It even comes with alphabet and number stickers so that you can put your child's name or your phone number on it in the event it gets misplaced.

The "ears" on the Goodbyn make it easy for little hands to open the lid. It also has a handle on top for carrying it around.

Once we had our Goodbyn decorated, we of course had to fill it up. We weren't going anywhere, but Mason was just so excited to try it out. I filled it up with some random things I had in the kitchen. Another nice thing about the Goodbyn is that it makes any lunch look exciting!

ATWT: Baby Bear

Cheaper Than Therapy

Maybe I'm biased. Just maybe.

But how can you look at this face and not want to snuggle him to pieces?

My Father-in-law says he has a "Dinosaur Smile." Meaning, if he asked him for a pet dinosaur, he would have to say yes.

He just bats those little eyelashes at you and you can't help yourself. He's going to be trouble for sure.

And oh yes, we were at In 'N Out. Good stuff.

We are really excited to have a Microsoft retail store in our mall. Maybe we're a little bit dorky, but I like it that way.

Sewing Skills.

As you may remember from my Previous Sewing Adventures I am not very good at it. But, I've been reading Make It and Love It a lot lately, and drooling over all the projects.

Then it occurred to me, why on earth can't I try making some of those things? Should I let my sewing handicap stop me? Heck no!

I started with this super easy tutorial on turning a short-sleeve shirt into a long-sleeve shirt. I had a brand new shirt I bought from Target for $2, and some cotton knit that matched perfectly from the remnants bin at JoAnn's.

Not perfect by any means, but you have to start somewhere, right?
